The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has recently started running five round trips per week from Curtici to Tekirdag and one round trip per week from Munich to Curtici. In addition, on the route between Genk in Belgium and Curtici in Romania there will be an increase in rotation from three to five times a week and a new pilot project for semi-trailers that cannot be craned, according to the company.
RCG says it wants to improve its network for customers who want to transport their goods to Turkey. According to the rail logistics specialist, this is an important freight transport hub for transport between Europe and Asia.
Since the beginning of February, the RCG has been running the TransFER between Curtici and Tekirdag with five round trips per week, which was made possible with the support of Pasifik Eurasia. The connection replaces traffic with three weekly round trips from Curtici to Istanbul and creates a direct connection to the port of Tekirdag – an important transshipment point for traffic flows between Western Europe and Turkey via the Curtici gateway as well as for transit traffic.
With one round trip per week, the rail logistics provider also runs from Munich directly to Curtici and regularly connects this with southern Germany and in combination with the two new connections from or to Tekirdag.
According to the company, the TransFER Genk–Curtici will be increased from three to five round trips per week and will enable additional connections from or to Tekirdag. In addition, non-crane semi-trailers can now also be transported on this connection, it said. This is also being planned for the connection between Budapest and Neuss.
The TransFER Budapest-Istanbul continues to run four round trips per week, the TransFER Bratislava-Istanbul with one round trip per week.
