According to Total News, quoting from the information base of the Ports and Maritime Organization, Jalil Eslami, member of the executive board and the deputy of port and economic affairs of the Ports and Maritime Organization, announced this news and stated, this organization is the sovereign representative of the government in commercial ports and commercial shipping, and in order to ensure and improve the safety of ports, as one of the most important tasks, it tries to raise the awareness of the maritime and port community and experts by holding specialized meetings and planning and exchanging opinions on issues related to port safety o promote compliance with the standards and requirements of transportation and storage of dangerous goods.
A member of the Board of Directors of the Ports Organization stated that the specialized conference on transportation and storage of dangerous goods in ports was held with the participation and cooperation of one of the specialized terminals of Shahid Rajaei port, and said, this conference is a good opportunity for all experts, specialists and managers related to the issue should meet and increase knowledge and explain the importance and sensitivity of the issue.
Deputy of Port and Economic Affairs of the Ports Organization has mentioned the goals of this conference as follows, learning about the concept of dangerous goods and the importance of observing safety in the transportation industry, the classification of dangerous goods by the United Nations, the duties of the relevant authorities (sea and land) in maintaining and improving the safety of dangerous goods and familiarizing them with obligations and responsibilities of operators for transporting dangerous goods.
Eslami listed the expected standards to be observed in all stages of production, storage containers, packaging and labeling, transportation and storage of dangerous goods as other goals of this conference.
According to Eslami, all the participants in this conference, in addition to being fully familiar with the category of dangerous goods, also got acquainted with the operational examples of compliance with the requirements and standards of the subject, and through the invited professors, the legal requirements of the country’s crisis management regarding the explanation of the duties of various related institutions also became aware of the issue.
He emphasized, this conference was considered an important event for improving the safety of dangerous goods terminals in ports, and the continuation of its holding by other relevant governmental and non-governmental authorities will lead to the institutionalization of standards in the country’s supply and logistics chain.
