What does the commercial vehicle industry need so that the Paris climate goals can be achieved? One of the questions that the IAA Transportation wants to ask itself this year too.
“One thing is clear: cargo bikes can make a contribution to CO2 reduction and decarbonization in the last mile in cities and therefore help answer the question. We are therefore very pleased that we are receiving the Caboty Award this year at the IAA Transportation Cargobikes “We can once again offer a central stage,” says Jürgen Mindel, VDA Managing Director for IAA Transportation.
Obstacles on the circuit
From the morning of September 19th, testing will take place on the IAA Transportation cargo bike course. Various obstacles along the closed circuit ensure test conditions that mimic real road conditions. The testing is carried out by HUSS-Verlag. An objective jury consisting of specialist journalists, scientists and industry experts. evaluates the most innovative cargo bike models in the following categories: “Light Cargobikes”, “Heavy Cargobikes” and “Cargobike Trailer”. The celebratory award ceremony will take place on the same day in the afternoon at the IAA Transportation Cargobike Parcour.
“The IAA Transportation offers us the appropriate platform to show that cargo bikes are key elements for more sustainability and more space – and energy efficiency in city deliveries. We see the cargo bike in its diversity as an indispensable means of transport in order to cope with the constantly increasing volume of shipments and yet also advance climate protection in economic considerations,” adds Rainer Langhammer, Managing Director of HUSS-Verlag.
The award was presented at the IAA Mobility in Munich last year. Applications for the Caboty Award open on June 1st and can be submitted until August 23rd.
Bicycle logistics conference for the first time at the IAA Transportation
The 5th bicycle logistics conference will also be held at the IAA Transportation 2024. The specialist conference for emission-free logistics with cargo bikes and trailers in Germany will take place on September 18th at the exhibition center in Hanover. The program includes several panels that deal with central topics in the industry such as services, infrastructure and economic efficiency as well as the potential for climate protection. The main aim of the conference is to promote discussion about the transition to zero-emission and energy-efficient mobility. Around 200 participants are expected.
“I am pleased that we are consolidating the cooperation that began two years ago. Cargo bikes are increasingly becoming a standard as a commercial vehicle in urban commercial traffic. The strong presence at IAA Transportation expresses this and shows guests a clear option for quickly switching to CO2-neutral, cost-effective vehicles,” says Tom Assmann, Chairman of the Bicycle Logistics Association.
IAA Transportation 2024 with new cargo bike course
The IAA Transportation is offering a completely revamped cargo bike course this year. All exhibitors have the opportunity to experience the latest vehicle innovations during the IAA Transportation from September 17th to 22nd. What is new this year is the modern design of the course. The course also has six high-quality elements that are based on real road conditions and enable varied testing. In addition, the IAA Cargobike Course and the IAA Last Mile Area will be spatially merged this year.
