The Grünwald-based education company Simpleclub and the Lünen-based recycling specialist Remondis are launching a digital training offensive together. By using new technologies and innovative learning methods, the qualification of professional drivers should be modernized and a contribution made to solving the personnel shortage in logistics.
According to the Federal Association of Road Transport, Logistics and Disposal (BGL), there is already a shortage of 80,000 professional drivers this year. At the same time, the volume of freight on the road is increasing.
“The shortage of skilled workers is hitting the logistics industry particularly hard. We understand: There are simply too few applicants. Instead of starting the next recruiting campaign, we are investing in strengthening, retaining and qualifying our existing talent,” says Frank Dohmen, Human Resources Manager of the Remondis Group.
Alexander Giesecke, founder and managing director at Simpleclub, says: “Calling for politicians to solve problems is not enough. We have to offer solutions ourselves from within the economy.” Nico Schork, founder and managing director at Simpleclub, adds: “We are pleased to be able to present such a solution together with Remondis and expand our professional offerings. Contrary to the widespread assumption that drivers can be replaced by AI, we see an enormous increase in importance in this field.”
Learning content as texts, videos or animations
According to the cooperation partners, the “Digital Training for Professional Drivers” project was initiated by the Remondis Rhineland Region. All regions of the Remondis Group are now actively participating in this initiative. The implementation of the entire project was accompanied by the “Recademy” as a central location for training and further education, according to the companies.
According to the announcement, the content of the learning platform is a mandatory part of the training to become a professional driver. Tablets are available for trainees to use. Since its launch, the digital learning platform will be gradually rolled out to around 300 professional driver trainees at Remondis. The entire framework curriculum for the three-year training to become a professional driver should be accessible via Simpleclub by winter 2024. According to the cooperation partners, trainees have access to content in the form of texts, videos, interactive animations and exercises. The content is created by experts at Simpleclub; they are also checked through the cooperation with Remondis.
Edgar Koop, Rhineland trainer at Remondis, says about the reasons for introducing Simpleclub:
“Staff shortages increase the burden on us as in-company trainers and lead to numerous unused free hours. Trainees suffer from significant learning gaps and uncertainty with their learning progress.”
In view of the successful start of the project with professional drivers, Remondis says it has already expanded the collaboration to include all training occupations available via the digital learning platform. This includes a variety of commercial and commercial-technical professions such as industrial clerks, electronics engineers, mechatronics engineers and office management clerks. Of the total of 1,400 trainees at Remondis, the tool could potentially be used by up to 1,100.
