According to Total News, quoted by IRNA, Reza Nasiri, with the plan to create an “air taxi” between Gonabad and Mashhad, was prioritized by the regional airport of this city due to the volume of pilgrims from the Razavi Shrine and the annual trip of 2 million non-Iranian pilgrims to Mashhad.
While announcing this news, Nasiri said, considering the necessary facilities and infrastructure of this airport, the holding of aviation and pilot training courses is being pursued through the relevant authorities, which will increase the number of flights and the location of Gonabad airport.
The Governor of Gonabad continued, Along with the establishment of aviation training courses, the establishment of related courses at the Islamic Azad University of Gonabad branch is also being pursued through the officials of this university at the national level as an important priority.
Referring to the capacities of religious tourism and the presence of a number of blessed places and shrines of the brothers of Imam Reza (AS) in Gonabad, and on the other hand, the capabilities and infrastructure of health tourism, he stated, launching an air taxi on this route will further promote Gonabad regional airport and the region.
Referring to Gonabad’s Economic, Industrial, Mining and Agricultural potentials, Nasiri said, “the opportunity of setting up the airport in this city can be used to transform Gonabad into a hub and a port for goods in the east of the country, which plays an important role in the economic prosperity of the region.”
He added, increasing the number of Gonabad airport flights from one day to 2-3 days a week is under consideration.
Governor of Gonabad said, these issues are being prepared in the form of a plan and will be sent to the Minister of Roads and Urban Development and the country’s airports company for further investigation and adoption of appropriate solutions.
